Subject: A recollection

I remember an instance while studying in HPS.

Yee Wai Sing invited me to his birthday party. I was overjoyed! I had seldom been invited for functions as I was quite inactive in school esp. any ECA. I did not take part in any of them. (I had always envy my classmates who had so much to share.) Neither did I stay back in school for any other business as I was needed at home very much cos' I was quite quick with my hands and was able to help earn some dough for the family in the 'josspaper handicraft business'. My mum told me this was the most important thing to do at that time --- for the survival of the family!
However, I had my worries. This invitation had also brought me sleepless nites as I could not afford to buy any present for Wai Sing. I did not have any pocket money then as my dad could not afford to give us any.
Finally, did I get to attend the function?
Yes! After scanning through my dirty, worn-out bag, I managed to gather enough 'properties' to give to him --- 3 new Havelock School single lined exercise books which were meant for school. Wai Sing, do you remember this cheapskate gift of mine?
I managed to salvage some old exercise books with only few pages written, tore the used pages and reused them like new inorder to replace those new ex. books which I used as Wai Sing's present.
Just fancy that.
